i last sighted a nest of sparrow in 2009. It was just on the edge of my ventilation window. I am big fan of nature. So i really like their chirrup. I start putting some food for them even though i know they didn't eat that dry rice nad wheat seeds. But suddenly after one month i guess they disappeared from there and after that i have never seen a sparrow nest.

The house sparrow was part of our every day life in the above mentioned period. There was hardly any tree without a sparrow nest. They were always around us, chirping and picking up food, grains and insects.

I have heard of sparrows disappearing from other localities mostly due to use of cellphones and cell-phone towers..however, in my locality, we have enough food source and a well maintained lake in the middle due to which a number a birds flock together, breed and sparrows are in a fairly large number. I havent yet seen a dead sparrow anywhere and also havent seen any nests around.

Our family used to go to that village temple every month. I used to go once or twice in a year. But every time i go, i saw sparrows nest(at least 3) in the shop roof. Last time i saw many sparrows were digging the soil through their beaks. Its really nice to see. But after a week i heard many news regarding sparrows decline. So i thought of sharing this. Our sparrows still alive in remote villages which was not developed more with mobile towers and packaged foods. But in urban city like Bangalore(in our banashankari 1st stage) still i didn't see sparrow. Its really worrying.

Well it is more than heartening to mention that fortunately, the area in which I reside sees a lot of these chirpy birds. Not just the sparrows, other vibrant creatures like Kingfishers, Parrots, Pigeons aren't a rare sight either. One highlight of this fact is that the number has definitely gone down over the years, but it's still not the end.
It is very often that I see sparrows coming inside my home and feeding on little grains that they find on the kitchen top. It indeed is a pleasing sight.
The future looks bleak, but we can look forward to something better by taking steps on an individual level.
