I saw that the sparrow numbers dwindled in my locality. Probably this was due to an increase in Construction activity in our locality and many old houses were demolished to build new apartments. But once the majority of the construction activity is completed now and houses are getting older, I found that the Sparrow numbers increased significantly. Once, me and some of my friends thought of doing something to help sparrows and other birds. House sparrows use to come at my balcony and try to build a nest above a water tank in my house. this was always attacked by numerous crows,who are fed nearly 5-6 times a day by my neighbour due to some religious purposes.
unfortunately I ,too have enclosed my balcony with glass windows, so sparrows do come though much less than before but nesting is out of question.
I tried to put nest on a tree in my garden ,but there r too many cats which attack the sparrows, and so they r not sucessful in nesting in these nest boxes.

I belong to Guwahati, Assam. And I remember my childhood seeing lots of sparrows around my house. This is during the 80s and 90s. We had an Assam type house and I remember seing so many sparrow nests inside the house roof - which were made up of tin and wood. I have grown up along with sparrows. But sadly, as I am growing old and have reached late thirties, sparrows have vanished. So I want to controbute in whatever way and save these small and cute creatures.

residential colony, few commercial shops, has 4 trees on the main road Kadirenahalli Bus Stop, Kadarenahalli, Banashankari Bangalore Karnataka
for the past 15 years as the residential locality has grown, with increasing traffic, we haven't seen a single sparrow in this area.
But i do see Parrots, Pigeons,Mainas and Kites in this area very often even today.
Only time i was able to show Sparrows to my child was while visiting some village about a few years ago.
