The place I am reporting is actually our garden/front yard where we made an arch over which we have some bougainvillea and yellow oleander and some other small trees and shrubs nearby. We put up a place for a sparrow to build a nest but i think they like the arch better and sometimes I feel there may be even 50 sparrows in the foliage of the arch - there's so much cackle
I am from chennai where i was told sparrows are on the decline and feel like catching a few from here and taking them over but never have the heart to disturb them
Its difficult to see the sparrow's nest in this arch but I am sure there are at least 3 or 4

I observed that as the mobile technology usage started increasing, proportinately the sparrow population started declining. I strongly feel, the sparrows dont like the mobile network/signal, and may be its harming their living.

Dear Sir,
From 1996 to 2006 I lived in the balthi maheshpur village near about kursela. During 1996 to 2000 I saw large number of sparrows over there, but later on I observed they were very few. But now a days I m going once in a year for 2 weeks and I observed that the sparrows are missing now.

Sparrows visit my small balcony everyday. In fact as I write this, I can hear sparrows chirping happily. I have some potted plants in my balcony and the sparrows flit about among the plants. Sometimes they annoy me by pecking and destroying tender leaves of my tulsi plant. I have also noticed them picking up threads, fibres and dried twigs perhaps as nest material. I wonder where the nests are though. There are some trees in this complex;some nests maybe among the branches. The sparrows have been around here for several years.

It has been a habit of our family members, especially my husband and me, that every morning we leave seeds and rice grains on our balcony and terrace for the sparrows since the past 5-6 years. I have a small collection of potted plants in my balcony and the terrace. These sparrows come every morning after sunrise and evening before sunset for the seeds and grain. We also leave water for them in small earthen containers. In fact for the past 6 years, these birds have become our alarm system with their early morning chirpings. At times they also use small crevices in our house to build nests.
But this year there has been a reduction in the number of birds that have been comming to our house. The main reason for this is the sudden apperance of predator birds, especially Kites and eagles. This year a pair of Kites have been hunting down our sparrows. We have tried all efforts to save our birds from them, but in vain. Due to the Kites the number of sparrows in our area has drastically reduced. There is a huge dump of garbage along the Pushta road which is increasing in size with each passing day. Due to this garbage dump the numbers of predator and scavenger birds has increased manifold. This is having an impact on the sparrow population
