It is very sad that the sparrows have disappeared completely. I attribute the cause to the loss of tree covers and possibly due to increase in the telecommuniation towers. I used to see the plenty of sparrow at my native place around 250 km from Pune. But, in pune, they are never seen.

I used to see a lots of sparrows the whole day. Many of them used to make nest in our house at many places. For the last few years, I rarely see any sparrows in this area. The disappearance of the sparrows from this area could be the excessive use of pesticides as this area is an agricultural area. Something should be done immediately to reintroduce sparrows to this region, as they help farmers by eating sperms/insects etc. that grow on the crops and thus help the farmers.

During my frequent travel to Hyderabad (my Native City), I always find two sparrows in Departure wing (near Idli Factory Restaurant) - Gate No. 22, of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, Hyderabad. Inspite of disturbance from the travellers, still the sparrows play, make chirping sounds . This I observe almost every trip (about 4 trips in a month) to Hyderabad.
