WE have sparrows every morning at the window. chirping continuously as if htye have come to wake us up. They must be 2 -3 in number. I usually leave some grains & water at the window for them to eat.
They are to be seen since a week or so. I must not have noticed sparrows since many months beforw that.

Have been living in this locality from 1984 onwards. Have seen lots of these sparrows in those day in this area. We used to feed the birds raw rice everyday and we would find a huge flock of about 30 to 50 birds come and feast at our house.
With the advent of globalization and increase in vehicular population the decline in the numbers was clearly visible as they stopped coming by the beginning of 1990.
Am not sure if the mobile towers were responsible for this dwindling in numbers as i have seen these birds in numbers in places in Nilgiries like Ooty, Coonoor Etc. where inspite of the presence of mobile towers there is still a large population of sparrows.

i am from Mumbai, i lived in rural Mumbai area(Ambernath). Sparrow has been a part of our childhood.we stay in Apartment and washroom windows always had a sparrow nest and the little baby chrip was very common, how sparrow used to come to pick up some rice which we used to sprinkle on the window. but in Bangalore i have not seen a sparrow and it is been 3 yrs now. i was very happy to see sparrow at Bangalore new airport when i went there first in 2009.

It is sad and heartning to see that the population of the sparrows has come down drastically in village too.I would like quote example for the above statement .My house is located near to well and there are trees around it,i feel this is best place to grow their family .Around 3 years back i used see the sprrows i their nest in my house.They always made chirping sound flew in and out of the house and there were many nest in the trees,but today i feel sad that idont even see the sparrows oftenely around my house.
