My house is located at the last corner of the colony and after my house thre is some uncultivated land. We have got some open space backside our house and every day my wife
keeps grains (Rice etc.) in a plate to feed sparrows. on first two days no birds came but third day we say two sparrows arrived and in evening the number increased to 5-6
now each day 20-30 sparrows come regularly in morning and evening without missing a day. I get the chance to feed them once in a week and that is "SUNDAY" rest my wife feeds them everday.
We both love these birds very much.

There were atleast 5-6 breeding pairs in the building that I lived. The first time I moved in, I did observe a nest right of the window ledge made by the a pair of sparrow. The chick had hatched and every day I would wake to the loud noise made by the chick as it was visited by its parents to be fed. However hardly 5-6 days had passed when there was no sound at all and I saw a cat sleeping on the ledge and assumed the chick was devoured. However there were still around 5-6 sparrows I saw regularly feeding in and around the building.

Once, when I was in school, during the summer vacations, I had taken care of a sparrow's youngling as it had fallen from one of the nests. Since it seemed abandoned, I had taken it home. I used to feed it, and take it out with me. And later on, train it to fly inside my house as it grew. Then one day when I had thought that it had learned to fly well I took it out and it flew away. I had painted its tail red to identify it later on. But I never found it again.

I can never forget my school time at Gole Market and this period was synonymous with watching sparrows. They were an integral part of my growing years and the memories associated with them has been imprinted in my mind forever.
Going to Talkatora stadium from school or during our vacations, with trees in full bloom, flowers blossoming everywhere, listening to the chirping of these little creatures was so mellifluous.Getting tired, sitting under the shed of the tree, these little friends used to come and hover around us.Watching them drink water was so fun.
Early summer morning, the chirping of these birds used to be our wake up call.Sitting on the windows,it felt as if they are saying some thing to us!!!!Feeding them with food and arranging a water pot for them was so satisfying. And who can forget them watching them in monsoon. All drenched up,squeezed up,taking shelter in the balcony, with innocent eyes looking at us, that we might not shoo them away.It never used to happen!!!
These little creatures are like a small child, full of mischief, innocence, wanting to cover the whole sky, restless.Lets join hands to save them from getting extinct so that the coming generation too gets to know them!!!
