During my school & college days i can see lot of sparrow. As i grown up, i hardly find the sparrow in my locality.
Though luckily since last couple of weeks i am able to see 2-3 sparrow coming to my home and i love to feed them with chapatis, bread, rice.
Though the number of sparrow i see are very less as compared to the pigeons.

The location in the discussion has quite a bit of open area. A 20*7m lawn lined by many trees (lagistroma, cryptomeria, peach and cherry to name a few). The houses are 1 to 2 floors older wooden houses. I have often found sparrow nests in the space between my roof and ceiling. In the last 6 months I have come across 2 occasions where young fledglings had fallen out of their nests and eventually died.
Also maybe important to mention but there are no cell phone towers in a radius of about 20 meters.

As a child (living in Punjab) the sparrows were an integral part of my life. Loved keeping grains and water for them twice and if need be thrice a day for them to feed on. But after shifting to Secunderabad 13 years back I observed that the numbers of sparrows was very less. needed to fill the grain bowl only once in 2-3 days. But the present place where i reside i can hear the birds chirping in the early hours every morning (which reassures me of being a little closer to nature). I have observed a variety of birds in the period mentioned period but few sparrows.

in the year 2004 used to see sparrows at my house but in the last few year not a single sparrow is seen. only the amount of pigeons have increased. as there is a jain mandir near my house you could get to c sparrows as in the chabuttra and food area but in the past few year not a single sparrow is seen. hope to c them again in the locality.

As I have mentioned that I have grown up with Sparrows, keeping them as pets, feeding them, some times even to an extent taking care of their chicks, even helping them to build nest. ( empty the window ledge so they can make a nest ). I did notice that in the recent past say, past 4 to 5 years the sparrows were less seen . But there is a very nice wooded garden with lots of trees and grass etc in the locality where I stay ( Aradhana Enclave in RK Puram Delhi ) Large numbers of Sparrow’s do visit and may be just stay there. I see tree’s full of sparrows there some times in the evenings. In the late afternoons I do see sparrows eating grass seeds. What I do is just listen to theirs chirps and take photographs ( this gives me a sense of peace and reduces a lot of stress ). I do plan to buy some wooden bird houses and place them in the trees to allow the sparrows to make nest. We do need to protect them. They are a part of our cultural heritage. Lots of things are being done to protect the Tiger but it seems to me that very little is being done to protect the Sparrow.
