Amirtharaj Asaithambi - Middle Street Residential Area Eda-Melaiyur Tamil Nadu

Everyday, I can see sparrows roaming around my house... It was some 8-10 years back. But now, I cannot see much... I can say almost nothing... Even we used to talk about this with my friends' circle and we thought this might be because of the Mobile network and some radiation from these towers which may affect them... I love this bird since it is very small and harmless.. But seems we are harming it...! We have to do something to save this... Else, our next generation can see them only in papers...!

ASHOK KUMAR - Village Jaisingh Pur Distt Meerut UP Meerut Uttar Pradesh

The village is surrounded by large cultivated land and mango orchards. The main crop is sugarcane and potato. Both need a large quantity of pesticides and insecticides. No trees in the fields and very few in and around houses in comparison to what used to be 20 years back. pigeons and crows are visible and sufficient in numbers. Pigeons can breed in houses but sparrows not seen. I remember sparrow would nest in the ceilings made up of tiles in the houses and no body would disturb them. Today houses are that of RCC linters and ceiling fans even in villages have de-sheltered this domesticated bird. Perhaps it is paying the price of being nearest to man.
