Marthandam Old Bus Stand, State Highway 91 Marthandam Tamil Nadu
During 2004 - 2006, I was studying in 11th standard. When I use to go for tuition in the early morning I use to see nests and loud chirping sounds of sparrows. Now, I am able to see just a few sparrows here and there very occasionally.
Note: The main reason for the decline of sparrows in my region is due to emerging buildings that replaced old buildings that where once serving as a nesting place for the sparrows. Another reason I hope is increasing mobile towers.

I generally see a pair of sparrow comming to my balcony for feeding the grains we put their for birds in the morning. My wife says that there are one or two pairs more and thats it. I repent that I have never seen a nest even in the trees around my house. R K Puram Sector 12 is fairly green area

Ambehta Chand Village Ambehta Chand Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh
During this time when I was studying in high school it was a regular feature that so many sparrows used to come near mummy and eat from the her plate of breakfast and they were free to do so. Around 8-10 sparrows were having there nest in our house in the roofs. Whole day we can see group of sparrow playing in sand then taking bath in water. In the evening they used to fly in big groups all around the village.
Some time there eggs used to fall from their nests in roofs and even sometimes their small baby birds fall from nest and died as there was no way to put them back in the nest. We used to feel very sad at that time. These birds never used to irritate us unlike the crows.

Sundar Nagar is a residential colony. It has 148 houses built on 950 square yard lots. Sundar Nagar New Delhi Delhi
Despite Sundar Nagar being a leafy, tree-filled area which adjoins the huge Delhi Zoological Park, sparrows have completely dissappeared from here. This is surprising and disturbing as the plot sizes and the sizes of the houses remain the same over the last 50 years. In addition, the gardens in front of all the houses remain the same. In fact, these gardens are visited by parrots, pigeons, doves, magpies, and numerous other birds. Sundar Nagar, touchwood, is full of birdsong, huge numbers of eagles circle the skies above it-but the sparrows who were ubiqitous once, have completely dissappeared. Other birds are still nesting in the many trees in Sundar Nagar as are they in bouganvillea bushes. There is no sign of the sparrows. If indeed instectisides were affecting them, then would'nt those very insectisides affect the other birds? And since other species of birds still forage the gardens in front of homes for insects, how come the sparrows are not there? Same goes for telephone towers-should'nt these be affecting other species as well?

Finally a sparrow couple choose my house for their nest. like their forefathers, after the gap of about 25 years. I am very happy. I enjoy their chirping, which I heard after about 25 years. Thank God they are back. Although one couple. I am hoping a large number.
What was the reason behind their disappeance, may be pollution, changing pattern of agriculture, rise in tempreture, changing pattern of construction, struggle with other birds. It is the matter to be taken very seriously as they are symbolising that this area is no more suitable for living. So they are vanishing. How long we Hard skinned animals will survive ?
