Every sundown one can spot a wave of little birds flying across the campus lawns chirping hysterically. This is always a surprise for a newcomer, and many rush to the lawns armed with their cameras.
Perhaps because the campus is a green oasis in an otherwise dry, rather industrial landscape, it is teeming with wildlife. It is not unusual to spot dozens of sparrows in bamboo thickets and other shrub around the buildings. The more adventurous ones build nests right in the building.
Traditional architecture in Gujarat had Pols- a cluster of houses around a courtyard, and invariably a Bird house in these courtyards.There are still many in the old city, which attract a large number of pigeons but this is a vanishing feature in the suburbs as the city expands, and engulfs most of its green spots.
Perhaps its high time we looked back into the past, and did some rethinking and reviving!

I would find sparrows sometimes wandering into homes. We would catch them sometimes and play for a while and then let them fly away.
Recently my parents have found a pair of these birds who come rest on the tress right in front of our house. My parents feed them with rice (warm rice only, they dont eat cold rice). They seem to recognize my parents quite well.

When i was very young sparrows make their nests in our ceilings & holes or ventilation system of Havelis. but after when we installed the ceiling fan they left our houses. In ninetees i usually saw a huge number of sparrows eating grains on our roof top. We still offering food (roti,bajra,wheat etc.) to them but the number has been reduced. Even I feel the number of peacock is also declining. In earlier days in summer season when i sleep on the roof peacocks were the morning alarm. They dance on the roofs in groups. but now the number is declining everyday which is very sad.

I had seen 30 to 40 sparrows chirping at that place when ever I have visited this place. It is at the welcome arch(main entrance) of the vegetable market place.

I saw not only sparrows,i saw birds like bul-bul etc.they used to come to our house,since we were in thatched house,they lived in the burrows that made by them in the roof of the thacthed house
