When I moved in 2008...I did observe a lot of sparrows...say about 15 to 20 birds at a time daily in the morning pecking in my green patch or my pots. Its been a while that I see only 2 to 5 birds rarely... we do have a mobile tower in the vicinity... lots of A/C etc. Never seen bird nest though.

House sparrows are seen on the main roads in the morning in Mayur Vihar phase I. Probably they live in the urban village - Chilla village - accross the road.
Last month I had also seen a couple of sparrows at Shastri Park metro station. They have their nests on the railings of the statition.

People use to say that only because of insecticides used by farmers that sparrow have disappeared, but it is not even seen in organic farms, so the reason could be something else. If it is because of microwave towers I saw some sparrows in Chennai to be much more precise in Kollathur, near Perambur. In this place you seen more ornamental fish breeders. We cannot see them in Rice mills either.
