| Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? | The village is surrounded by large cultivated land and mango orchards. The main crop is sugarcane and potato. Both need a large quantity of pesticides and insecticides. No trees in the fields and very few in and around houses in comparison to what used to be 20 years back. pigeons and crows are visible and sufficient in numbers. Pigeons can breed in houses but sparrows not seen. I remember sparrow would nest in the ceilings made up of tiles in the houses and no body would disturb them. Today houses are that of RCC linters and ceiling fans even in villages have de-sheltered this domesticated bird. Perhaps it is paying the price of being nearest to man. |
