I remember that these lovely birds were the one I firstly recognized as 'birds'. Their regular chirping on the two 'Ashoka' trees in my compound in the evening, even today, makes me feel very close to nature. Other than this I remember my Grandma washing and putting up rice and wheat grains that came from our village on the terrace of our house so that they can dry in the sun. She fended of crows that came their for feeding, but allowed these small yet sublime birds to have their stomach filled up there. My father also, through these birds, on many Sunday evenings taught me the value of commitment, hard work and the true essence of life that these birds are a symbol of.
Due to lack of suitable environment or safety I remember these birds making their nest in the canopy of a ceiling fan in my house, and that was the first time I saw a proper nest being made and the exhausting process of it.
During summer mornings these birds used to come into my room through the windows with the fan running at full throttle, and the speed with which I moved to switch it off is surely an incident I can boast of to show that I had something for them.
There are numerous such events and the story can be unending.
Sparrows cannot be detached from my life. They have given me enough incidents to dwell upon whenever a lesson of life is to be learnt.
SAVE THEM, Do your bit.
