Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period?I have been fully aware of the dwindling population of sparrows in a city like Mumbai. Almost 6 months ago, I used to see very few sparrows perching on the balcony and the kitchen area of our Flat which is on the top floor; understandably they were on the lookout for food and a place to perch away from other predatory birds. We then decided to get a bird house installed on the kitchen grill and from that day onwards it became a daily routine to feed the sparrows’ bajra and also we have placed a bowl of water next to the bird house. Today we can see that this group of sparrows has increased and they visit our kitchen many times a day – although they seem to be disinterested in building a nest in the bird house – they definitely use it as a feeding place. I will continue to do my bit in order to see their population bounce back.
