Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? We have a small balcony full with 10 - 12 potted plants. The balcony has a metal grill - enough for sparrows to come in and to keep out pigeons and crows. We have kept a few coconut shells filled with water and food grains for the birds. We have also hung baskets for the sparrows to nest. Every morning between 6am to 7am we could easily spot 10 - 20 sparrows enjoying the food and water. After that the numbers go down to 5 - 10 birds in an hour. In the mornings we keep our inner sliding window closed so that the birds are not disturbed or frightened. Earlier they used to nest in the baskets provided. But of late due to the opening of a park ( A K Garden) next to our building, the nests in our balcony have declined. The park is full with a variety of full grown trees and shrubs. Probably they are nesting in the park now. The sparrows normally feast on our Tulsi plant and love to eat the tulsi leaves. Many a times they have plucked all the leaves and have left it barren, We have now increased the number of tulsi plants in our balcony. Of late we have started taking photographs and videos to document them.
