These birds frequently nests in our attic / ceiling (tin / corrogated roof) of our stair case, using dried grasses and small twigs. however they do have to compete for best location with a number of pigeons who also nest in the attic. Our being an old neighbourhood almost every house has atleast one full grown tree of various species and hence nesting materials are always in good supply.
Recently a couple of sparrows have nested in our stair case ceiling and have given birth. However, unfortunately one of their chick have fallen from the nest (approx 10-15 days back) and was quickly devoured by our pet dogs. Earlier though the number of nests and the no. of birds seen were high (more than 20) and have now being reduced. Presently atleast 4-5 sparrows eagerly await their daily breakfast (few crumbs of thin araroot buiscuit) from my father and share it with their other neighbours (some crows and common Indian Myna - Acridotheres tristis.
