Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period?Dear friends, I have been living in South Sinthee, Kolkata for last twenty years. It is located at the northern tip of my city. This is a residential colony developed during the early eighties. Compared to the rest of the city, my locality is quite green with trees, plants and with a well maintained park. During the initial years the house sparrow population was considerable or, if I may use the term 'normal'. But gradual disappearance of house sparrows started since late 90s and in last four-five years there has been drastic fall in the population. Though few people seem to be concerned, but this issue has been a talking point in my family. It is absolutely heartening to learn that an endeavor in this field has been initiated and reassuring too, after having read stories from other parts of my country. Thanking BNHS, Ministry of Environment and Forests, NCBS and NCF. Regards, Nilanjan Mitra. Kolkata. 700050.
