Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? We always had a large number in the compound but a couple of years back there was a drastic drop in their population probably due to heavy construction work in the neighbourhood. However provided nesting boxes, baskets ,shoe boxes -and left jowar and bajra aswell as puffed rice occassionally. They grew in numbers and now we have a daylong Chirpee chirpee cheep cheep sonata!Beautiful. They often join the family dog in the eveningwith his Pedigree nuggets-its quite a sight.!!!Hahaha .Sometimes give them crushed nuts which thy love. There is a small but over 100 year old bamboo clump which is now in the hotel premisis near the swimming pool where a large number roost at night. At home they are also in a larger bamboo grove and the bouganvillas.Unfortunately Jaipur is growing like a monster eating up all green open spaces, trees and bushes and old homes are pulled down to make ugly nature unfriendly flats and Malls !!Where do the birds go ??? We also have 21 peacocks and hens and am trying to resite some of them as our compound cannot sustain too many of them.We have a pair of Partridges(Keechoo and Meechoo by name)a pair of owlets and even a kingfisher-no fish for the poor chap though. A pair of hornbills with 2 youngones now, besides the seasonal koel, wapiti, mainas and parakeets. Over 200 kgs of bird seed per month consumed. Yes we have the jungle babblers and seven sisters and a pair of "Shikras"which create panic among the sparrows ever so often.Nature 'red in tooth and claw' I guess
