Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? The area that I am reporting here is one of the places I grew up and we (my family) used to live there in a house. Our family name is 'Gubbi' which means 'Sparrow' in Kannada (comes from the name of a small village in Haveri District from where my father's family's ancestors hailed). It was very common to see house sparrows build small nests inside people's houses in this area, especially around the time when these sparrows would lay eggs and hatch them. Our house also played host to one such nest and we made sure not to disturb them and ensure that they were protected. We often put out water and food for them and my grandmother used to say that having sparrow nest inside our house will bring good luck! And one fine morning, we woke up to the sound of two tiny little just-born sparrows! Our neighbours used to tell us that the biggest sparrow nest in the neighbourhood was in our house and it wasn't really a co-incidence that our family name is 'Gubbi'! And even more interestingly, the sparrows somehow always seem to ensure that they excrete their droppings outside the house :)
