| Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? | As a child I clearly remember there used to be so many sparrows flying in and out of homes, waking us up with there chirps and dirtying door tops with their droppings. This was in 1964-68. We used to reside in Kidwai Nagar(west) New Delhi, opposite Safadarjung hospital. My mother would insist that we did not leave doors and windows open too long, otherwise these birds would make a nest in any nook/niche they would find in the house.I particularly recall how careful i became of my mother's instructions when some sparrows died on being wounded/cut by the rotating ceiling fans.
Sadly those chirps became rare.
In my recent stint in New Delhi, I am delighted to note these little birds again, in the time period stated. They are almost always in pairs,I see them particularly in the mornings(thats also the time i have to observe nature!)drink water from the little vessel i keep out for birds and squirrels. Infact lately i have seen some zip in and out of my garage and hope to discover their nest without disturbing them!!. |
