Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? While taking a stroll in my colony, I used to see a few sparrows near a small shop in our colony. The shop was surrounded by greenery, so the sparrows must be having their nests somewhere nearby. I bought a sparrow nest with 3 compartments (bedrooms?); the middle one even had a mirror attached to the opening, so one could see whats inside as reflection from the mirror. I hung it outside my grandmother's portico; the place was surrounded by plants and a couple of fruit bearing trees. I had seen sparrows trying to catch insects in this place. Within a month, a family had settled in one of the compartments, and we could hear their chirping all day long. Once I felt that the chirping sounded like that of young ones. I checked inside the nest, and found 3 small ones. After a few days, the place was silent; probably, the babies were grown enough to fly. The chirping continued, and a couple of adult sparrows were seen flying in and out of the nest. But this suddenly stopped. I waited for a few days, but they were flying past the nest, but not entering it. I again tried looking into the nest and found 3 eggs. And the mirror was also fallen and beside the nest. Most probably, the sparrows got frightened when the mirror fell and have abandoned the nest. I did not know what to do with the eggs and how to artificially incubate them; and it was already a week old. Since then, the sparrow have stopped making that nest their home & I had to remove the nest. My grandma's old house is now making way for an apartment and I am now trying to place the nest in a different location in the same plot. Hoping the sparrows adopt it as their home.
