My mother used to leave grains for the birds. A few years ago there used be a lot of chirping of sparrows, and during the nesting season the birds would often come indoors and to try to make nests. In 2003 cell phone towers began to mushroom all over the city after the govenment of India allowed the use of mobile phones in J&K. The disappearance of sparrows began, and now only pigeons come to feed on the grain. However this spring I have observed a flock of five sparrows coming to feed on the grain and we hear their chirping early in the morning. Probably they are nesting in a newly built unfinished building near our house. I have taken some photographs and will try to take more.
