There is a nest in my balcony right now! I remember watching sparrows all the time everywhere when i was young. Arr through the early 1990's i used to live in Delhi near Khan Market and there would be groups of sparrows all around. Whenever we would put out any food sparrows would be the first to come for it. So much so, that i grew up thinking "chidiya" meant sparrow in hindi.. much later i realised chidiya means bird~!!
Slowly their numbers reduced and i've always missed the "chidya" of my childhood. I saw a good number at the old delhi railway station in 2005 when i was taking pictures there. I was very excited. Then again a good number at Dehradoon in old rajpur area while visiting friends there in 20010-11.
Imagine my excitement when i realised that a pair of sparrows has made a nest in my balcony! They've made their home inside the rolled up chic of my balcony.. rather precarious but i've given standing instructions to everyone not to unroll the chic ever!! It's a covered area which is protected from the rain and also from the sun.. Hope to see them raise a family there soon!
