Spent 20 years in a small town in Andhra pradesh where sparrows were very common during 1978 to 1998 with aleast 2-3 nest in the vicnity of most houses. People used to actively help them in nesting by hanging baskets as a sparrow nest was supposed to bring in prosperity. I remember noisy congregations on trees in the evenings in their hundreds. Relocated to the mentioned area in 1998.Although their general numbers in the mentioned area was less than that in AP it is in the last 5 years that they have more or less completely disapperaed.
