| Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period? | I get up every morning on hearing the chirping of birds. Not only sparrows, the usual crows, pigeons, and rare birds, migrating birds too. There was greenery all round, all nature grown. One side of Bhau Patil road is Botanical garden and Agricultural College on the West of our Goual Shinde Park,C building. Another side of Bhau Patil Road, is a vast Defence land with their godowns not frequently used by Defence with trees all round and lawn in the middle...this is on East of Bhau Patil Road, where we live adjoining the Churche at Kundan Prerana. We offer grains to the birds and water in a tub every day. When water is exchaused we can hear a different type of chirping or crowing calling our attention. When the fielt is set on fire to clear the bush, we can see the birds including sparrows crying in agony, flying helter skelter with fear, incapable of saving their nests, eggs inside and young ones in the nest raising alram incapable of escaping. This is a frequent occurance. Every morning and evening we love looking at the birds, mostly they are hidden but we hear their chirping. We can see the leaves moving and guess that birds are inside. After the fire, the open land poses a ghostly look like a burial ground with ashes all over. Even today one can see such a pathetic sight.. thogh greenery has come up afresh. We are worried everyday whether any day they can set the lawn and greenery on fire. |
