Kalpana Prasanna - Malleswaram Gayathri Devi Park Extension, Kodandarampura Bangalore Karnataka

During Jan - May 1993, we lived in tiny house next Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleswaram, Bangalore. The house was a low-roofed one, with a couple of houses adjoining it and shared a common front-yard. I had noticed a few sparrows flying about in that area. They had actually built a nest in the corner of our house (the inner part of the living room). Eggs were laid, they hatched, baby sparrows learnt to fly about and they eventually moved out. The attitude of the people in and around home was to treat them as cohabitants of their family. Those were the days when grains of rice, wheat & other cereals were cleaned by the womenfolk in the open space, the sparrows got their feed on a regular basis. A public tap in the open (which had a bit of water around it ) served to quench their thirst. The infants grew up actually viewing the live birds (unlike the CDs that the young ones have to contend with today)
