The number of sparrows have definitely decreased because concrete buildings have replaced old Assam-type buildings, which were wooden structures with tin-sheet roofing, with ample space for sparrows to make nests. I have seen some sparrow nests in wooden meter boxes, but now they are being replaced by digital ones made of metal. Yet every street in Assam has a temple or prayer house (naamghars), and sparrows will always find a nesting place in these structures.
