Q11. Would you like to share a story about House Sparrows from this time period?I live in a residential colony which is one of the greenest parts of Delhi. There are hundreds of trees lining the streets and many parks as well. It also lies right next to a part of the South Delhi Ridge, which is a Reserved Forest. In the past 8-10 years, almost all sparrows have disappeared from the area. The colony has also undergone many changes; single story bungalows have become 3 or 4 story houses, and there is continuous construction going on all year round. However, the greenery of the area has not been compromised at all. I remember days from my childhood when sparrows would nest in the ventilation windows of my house, and it wasn't uncommon to find atleast one nest with a few squabbling chicks in the spring and summer seasons. They were almost pestilential, and my mother had a wire mesh put across the windows to prevent them from nesting there. Not a day would go by when I didn't see sparrows in and around the house. No one could have thought at that time that they were almost on the verge of disappearance.
