This pertains to the period 1990-1998. This place is where we grew up. There were quite a number of house-sparrows then and I can clearly recollect house-sparrows chirping from the grill of our windows in the mornings and there were nests in the gap between the grill and the glass in the ventilators. Sparrows were there in the January 14 Pongal pooja when we kept small round balls of rice for the birds.

There were fair number of sparrows because, whenever we placed some old rice/ pulses etc. on the kitchen window, they used to be there. Now, I have hardly seen any sparrow in the neighbourhood. They seem to have been replaced by an ever increasing number of pigeons.
