There is a roost of sparrow on an Ashoka (Polyalthia longifolia) tree here. They are always around. But early morning and evening I can hear their chorus.

I visited this place last week. There were at least three nests in a gap above the ACs in nearby buildings. One nest was there in an card board box hanging at the inquiry office. Some staff had put an artificial nest for sparrows there above the Notice Board. There were many sparrows all around.

There is (was?) a roost of more than a 100 sparrows on a Pongamia tree in the busy square itself. One evening, as the decline of Sparrows was being discussed, I went to Mr. Gopal Thosar's (Hon. Wildlife Warden of Nagpur then) place which is just near the square. When, I was returning home I called him back from the square and asked him to come there.
It was a pleasant surprise for him, as there were more than 100 sparrows perched on electric wires above the busy traffic. The last time I saw the roost was in March 2010.

There was a Babul (Acacia) tree near Mr. Nandkishor Dudhe's (a birder from Amravati) house. There used to be more than a 100 sparrows roosting in this particular tree. A Shikra could arrive every evening and attack the tree many times till it took one Sparrow nearly every day. The chirping would stop for a moment when death arrived and the group had given away one of its member to the one high up in the food chain. Unfortunately, this tree was cut by a mindless person, and the sparrows shifted somewhere else, leading to stopping of our observations.
