Pottery Town, Bangalore Pottery Town, Chinnapa Garden Bangalore Karnataka
The area where I saw the house sparrows was in a small town called Pottery Town, where several generations of potters have been residing. Obviously, the setting of this area is void of high-rise buildings and supermarkets. Instead there are Mangalore-tiled houses (only few remain), and small mom and pop stores, that sell rice grains in gunnybags. There are more cycles and two-wheelers since it is a narrow lane.
In recent times, I have seen the number of sparrows dwindle in the city and it breaks my heart. The absence of low buildings with safe nesting havens and increase in the number of mobile usage is a large contributor to this swindling number. These days, the few sparrows I see are near the mom-and-pop stores, where a man is usually cleaning grain/rice that attract these beautiful little birds.
If there is anything I can do to increase their population in my city, count me in.
