I along with my father used to put out seeds(kakone)every morning for the birds. Slowly the population increased but now (as of March-May 2012)the population has declined drastically. In front of our house there used to be a huge tree , which was chopped down. Since the tree was chopped the population of the sparrows also declined.There are telephone towers at Chintels House which is not far from our house, I think that the presence of the telephone towers is one of the reasons for the decline in the number of birds.
