During this period it was difficult to get rid of sparrows as they tried to make nest at several locations- on lamp post of verandah, between iron safety rod and pane of ventilator, behind the tilted painting that used to hang on nail with a string, sill of ventilator which our old fashioned house had in plenty, between angle iron and tin of a tin shade, etc. I remember that once I had seen a maggot in a dead chick of sparrow. Once as a child remember having stepped on a fallen chick and had a feeling that I have stepped on a boiled potato. When I realized that it was a sparrows chick, I had jittery feeling.

I shifted to my parental residence at Jaipur in 2006. I had spent my childhood here and had stayed here regularly till 1984. It is a 3700 sq yds plot with construction in two blocks. We have several trees, several shrubs with two rectangular blocks of lawns. Earlier till around 1995 all the adjacent plots of similar size had huge gardens like ours but gradually they were sold and split into half and multi story buildings came up. Since my occupying the area in 2006 again construction work is going on almost on three sides but some bird life is still seen. Sparrows can be seen almost every day. In early summers groups of 4 to 24 can be seen on my lawn and small patches of sand. They love to take sandbath and I believe that with it they locate ants and feed on them. I have hung several earthern pots to facilitate nesting but none has been occupied by them accept for one occassion. I found two nests on a Zizyphus tree in 2009 (since it is so large that I can not cann it a srub any more). Earlier they used to make nests inside our house but now each and every possible route of entry has been blocked by wire meshes.
