Koustubh Sharma - Triveni Apartments Pocket-C Sheikh Sarai Phase-I New Delhi Delhi

Despite being an old colony with most houses having several openings that can potentially be used as nests, never saw any house sparrow. Interestingly the birdlife here is otherwise ok with observed nesting of tree pies, tailor birds, crows, mynas, pigeons, barbets, and unidentified warblers. Even though there are open spaces, there is absolutely no trace of a sparrow at least in the past several months that I have been here.
Just re-editing this entry as I saw a pair of sparrows bringing nesting material on 14th April 2012 to an old, partly broken street tube-light post. The cavity is probably too small to be used by a pigeon or myna!

Koustubh Sharma - Bangalore Airport Bengaluru International Airport Bangalore Karnataka

One of the finest places to see sparrows adapting to modern buildings, or perhaps modern building adapted to sparrows, one can see hundreds of sparrows in the terminal building. One can have sparrows hop up close and take bits of food kept in an empty space. Pleasant to hear the chirping of sparrows at the airport in the morning and evening...

Koustubh Sharma - Greater Kailash Part 1 South Delhi Delhi

People living in this locality say there used to be many sparrows until a few years ago (uncertain period), but now they are all gone. The area has otherwise a very good bird population including parakeets, mynas, crows, pigeons, peafowls, spotted owlets and also collared scops owl.

Koustubh Sharma - Hinauta village, Panna Tiger Reserve Panna Madhya Pradesh

This rural area is close to the only functional diamond mine in India. Though there are several agricultural fields, open spaces and tropical dry forest, and single storey buildings.

Koustubh Sharma - DLF Colony, Ghaziabad Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh

Visited a friend's parents' home in Ghaziabad that has a lot of garden space, compost pit and several plants within the house. Additionally, the birds are fed by the occupants regularly. The house also has a large garage and old style walls with holes in it that perhaps make space for sparrows to nest.
