As it was area where new residential buildings were under development. Sparrows were less seen in 1996 but seen more and more as the new residence buildings became more. there are also small industries nearby.

It was around 11:00 am .I heard sparrow sound . I looked everywhere but there was nothing. I just came out from chair and luckily found that it was below the chair. i took the little sparrow to the corridor . there were 3 different ways for sparrows to come inside. front, back and upper side. As we had lot of sparrows i was unsure about the direction of it's parents. So I kept it in corridor and waited. after sometime from right side , i saw its parents calling him . and i was confirmed about the direction .As the window was somewhat at height, i kept the baby sparrow in window. It gone out and landed safely on ground, as the ground had small grass and bushes due to rainy season .After half an hour, with other sparrows it got familiar outside .

a baby sparrow spotted on staircase of our building. almost grown up. But no matured sparrows spotted nearby. It was making sound sometimes but no answer from its parents. It was a time of evening, so i kept it on upper staircase and closed terrace door to protect from night enemies which I dont know about . I looked at 11:00 pm and in the morning, it was still there, sitting in a corner. As we have lot of crows also I decided to keep it out after around 10:00 am, as at this time crows go to different places . As planned i took it to the ground when i noticed some sparrows nearby and no crow. It immediately mixed with their group. Monitored the situation for about half an hour, it was all safe for the new bird sparrow.

I have seen sparrows from my childhood. In period 1992-2000, at my All India radio,Ratnagiri staff quarters, 6-7 sparrows will enter around sunset and sit on rope used for drying cloths. they will go away at sunrise. While at daytime, they fear and keep a safe distance from us, at night their fear vanished. We had sparrow nests in a overhead loft in our one room . I do not had much thought to care for them at that time, but never hurt them also. We only kept the fans off. I did not made any deep observation that time, everything was so natural, so common. As I remember, sparrows feed small worms and soft food like that. we intermittently watched the progress. when baby sparrow grows enough, parent sparrows will make frequent fly to and fro from loft to our room window, to teach the little birds how to fly. but the baby birds get confidence after a lot of time. they will fly but will usually descend on floor. After some attempts , baby bird successful to travel to windows.
Now the important step for baby sparrow is going to 'free nature' from our room window. It was much safe in the room. From morning, parents will try to take babies outside and will guide it. But after flying from window, the baby sparrow should go to a safe place, like some bush/small tree where it will get protection from crows etc. If it lands on open space, crows or cat may eat it. Once outside, its parents will feed them and guide them for flying to different places. within 1-2 hours, it will get accustom to outside atmosphere.
One more thing I will mention here. If it is not possible to fly outside till about 4-4.30 pm, its parents will not come to guide it. the babies will have to wait for next day. It will find a corner of a room to stay until next day......... A new day with new opportunities.

We lived in Doordarshan Quarters, Ratnagiri from 2004 to 2011.I put a clay plate for water and another plate for food. Sparrows (and many other birds) came to my balcony. Sparrows had nests in gaps between top roof plate and wall in our quarters building. One person near my room spread food grains in the morning. Sparrows came in my balcony from morning to 11:00 am and in the evening. Rarely visited in afternoon. Also they take sometime sand bath. In Summer they sometime enjoy bath in clay plate.
They visited plenty in number. In rainy season , I have seen more than 20 sparrows sitting in my balcony probably for getting shelter from rain. when in a row, Sparrows generally sit keeping their face in opposite directions, probably the group can monitor all directions. They may come one after the other, but when sense danger, all fly immediately. How they take decision and tell others is unknown to me. They make small fights when eating in our balcony. they can be nearby to crow, bulbul, maina, koel , parva (some marathi names) birds while eating and these big birds generally ignore sparrows and did not disturbed sparrows at least in my balcony.
