Davinder Pal Singh - Netaji Shubash Palace Wazirpur Depot, Ring Rd New Delhi Delhi

After the end of my official day, when I go home around 6 o'clock in the evening I spot a lot of sparrows in the small tress/bushes on the pedestrian pathway. I hope as one walks along the green patches visible in the map, there maybe more sparrows out there.

I worked in Netaji Shubash Palace and after lunch around 2 o'clock I along with my office colleagues used to pass that area for a quick short walk. There were a lot of small bushes (they were cut in early February, I think) and very great number of sparrows were there. Often I would spot around 20-30 sparrows and their chirping sound. Now only 2 months ago after cutting of the bushes, I am seeing a sudden decline in the number of sparrows but still I can spot around 10 to 15% nests there.

According to what I recall, during my childhood till my teen and early adulthood, sparrows were part of my live. The house s were only one story and there were a lot of greenery outside. There were at one or two trees outside each house. And when I compare it now, the houses are 3-4 stores, hardly any greenery (expect plants in house balcony or roofs). All the eucalyptus trees have disappeared. I have hardly seen any sparrow in the last 2-3 years. They extinct, I believe, in during 2004-2010. Now the only bird visible is pigeon.

Also I would like to state that during my childhood I used to see a hell lot of parrots but they also are hardly seen in my area. I have traced few of them near my block and their scream and squawking really makes me relaxed.
