there's a park adjacent my home where a large number of small birds the size of sparrow or smaller can be seen swarming and chirping in the bushes during evenings, guess not throughout the year. Recently I saw one which had shades as that of a sparrow on its wings.
I miss sparrows so much not only for their chirping but also for the reason that these were the most daring or human-friendly birds, often coming very close to get their food from our plate.
I can't really guess why they deserted human habitats, excessive fertilizer use seems plausible as vultures also vanished during the last four decades, but hard to believe as the sparrows could feed on so many things, - insects, cooked food, so on.
