we have a well in my backyard and looks like house sparrows absolutely love to build their nests there. I can only speculate why, maybe because they are protected from predetors? the well has an iron grill and big birds cant get in. but on the other hand, we had a few chicks slip out of its nest and fall into the well and died :(
