Ganapati R Shanbhag - Brahmand Phase VII Housing Society Brahmand Bus Stop, Patlipada Thane West Maharashtra

I was born and brought up in Kumta-581343 town in Karnataka State, we use see lot of sparrows just flying inside our house. My Grand mother use to say that it is very auspicious to have sparrows inside house. Since than I love these birds and I mean love only sparrows. I shifted to Brahmand in 2004 , I use to see many entering my flat, sitting on curtain rods, spending night sleep over these rods. Later in year 2008-2010 the number gradually disappeared. I noticed one change there was sudden increase in Pegion population and frankly speaking I hate these becuase of them speading dirt everywhere. I installed plastic nets. I had also made facility for sparrows to enter the net. They use to come inside and rest all night and move out during day time. But one good thing to share that I have observed increase in numbers in sparrows in recent times.. I am Happy they are BACK. I read a article also that Bangalore witnessed Sparrow Come Back @ airport Area...I have a son...he calls them their friend. so the legacy moves on...I have bought new flat and interiors in progress,I am planning to build a small platform for them to rest @ night. If you have any more suggestion for me please share the same.

This locality is in the outskirts of Bangalore. About 8 kms from here where there are still rural areas, I have seen a handful, no more than a dozen or two sparrows.

Ravi Sundar.K - India Secretariat Colony, Purasavakkam Chennai Tamil Nadu

It is widely said that the Cellphone Towers are the reason for the dwindling of the sparrows from our midst. Since childhood I grew up with sparrows in our house. Domesticated cats are the first enemy of the Sparrows, then come the ceiling fan. During the late sixties when ceiling fans were not in widespread use, sparrows were abundant. usually the sparrows build their nests inside our houses. when the ceiling fans were fixed they often get hit by them. I tried building nests from boxes outside the house, initially the sparrows colonised them but later the squirrels chased them away to occupy these nests, Due these factors these tiny birds are not found anymore now. So sad.
