Hear their pleasant chirping and am happy to hear it as in the Aundh Pune area where i lived earlier there were no sparrows spotted. They like to sit, play on the bougainvillaea tree / shrub. They like to eat bits of chapatti and grains like rice, wheat .I also keep water filled in a container which they drink from.

During this period, the sparrows have built a permanent nest in our balcony and their numbers grew into two digits. We also started keeping food for them in the balcony as well as in the terrace garden. Now on any given day more than 10 sparrows visit our house apart from other birds. (like pigeons, humming birds, egrates, wood peckers to name a few)

This is the time, when we moved into the Kamakoti Nagar, Pallikaranai and during this time we used to see few sparrows, but sparingly (<5 in number in 2006/7) in the entire colony. After we started our terrace garden (along with the water baths for birds). Our house started attracting more sparrows and their numbers grew steadily.

There is a lot of open area with vegetation around but the sparrow population kept coming down. I have seen a steep increase in the population of rock pigeons during the same time. The pigeons are everywhere trying every nook and hole, even attics inside the living room for nests while sparrows are moving more and more away as if they did not want to be part of the development of humans or pigeons.
