Sparrows used to come to our kitchen through kitchen window. They used to eat "ata" made for chapatis. 3-4 sparrows.
I observed sparrows around 1995-2004...
after that i have never seen sparrows.

I used to wakeup to the chirping of this sparrows and they are there when we dry some pulses on our terraces. I see them everyday on the terrace and they are not scared of humans

The sparrows up to this period of about 1994-95 were profilic and actually some had their nests in the house in nooks and crannies especially the verandahs that opened out wards.By about 2000 we did not see any.

I had seen many times during the huge early morning traffic jams along the sides of KR puram bridge, sparrows using the small holes on the bridges as their homes.

This area is an old housing board colony close to the beach.Sparrows roost in specific trees in fairly large numbers (favour poovarasan tree (thespesia populnea)).Saw a large number of nests (rougly 10) in boxes installed by the electricity dept in each colony.Spotted a nest on top of the shutter of a tea shop.Encouragingly a few people have kept cardboard boxes in front of their homes and sparrows have nested there.
