Sparrows are abundant in Aligarh, especially in Dhorra area (27.9178777N & 78.0926624E) near the Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh and one can observe sparrow nests in bushes and thickets and in buildings.

For a few years between 2000 and 2004, sparrows had drastically reduced in numbers, from a few hundred to a few (5-10). Then they staged a comeback. Since the last few years, there are active nests in many houses. My house houses a nest on the front porch in a dead room approached by a drainage pipe. Each year, through the year, sparrows nest here.

Sparrow lives in my house balcony from last 3 years. initially we kept small box to create house, then sparrow built its own nest. Now 4generation is continuing, and comes in every room of the house.

I see House sparrows every time I go to ATS Grocery shop, sometimes even at very late in the evening (around 8 PM). They keep rice in open gunny sacks right in front of their shop and these birds come there to feed on them. Quite cute to watch
